Are map upgrades worth their money or are they just plain uneconomical with it being better to upgrade to a new unit. My TomTom GO300 is 3 years old, I have the latest software and have recently replaced the battery - myself (dammed fiddly to do). However, my maps are 3 years old and in reality probably much older. The GO cost me £350 when new but I have no idea of the longevity of these products and given a GB map upgrade is £40 and you can buy a ONE V3 for £108 I'm not sure which way to jump? |

If you are happy with the 300 and the GPS reception isn't a problem then I would be tempted to save some cash and update the map, wait for a hardware failure to render the device U/S before going for a newer unit - Mike |

I've been very very happy with the GO300 - the only thing that started me thinking of replacing it was on a recent trip to Bath - for some unexplained reason "Jane" had a complete fit on her first constantly recalculating the route into Marlborough then asking me to turn around when possible then turn left immediately followed by turn right etc. It's the first time in three years that there has ever been a glitch with the system. Anyone else have any problems in that neck of the woods?
GPS reception has always been good - once it locks onto the signal that is which to be fair can be pretty slow at boot up. |

I have upgraded my maps (first upgrade in three years) and have gone for the Western Europe maps. I could not see the logic of paying £40 for the UK map when I could get the whole of Western Europe for £60. As usual with TomTom the download instructions were as clear as mud but got there in the end. The Pocket World speed cameras were a bit of a fiddle - although I copied and pasted from previous maps a number of the ogg files needed a fresh install - not sure why that should be but all working again now. I had also read about the bug whereby it asks if you want this sound but doesn't actually play one but to press YES anyway. |
