Hello.
Picked up my 970T New Edition last week following several months of deciding which sat nav to get - I know there are better navigating units on the market (Garmin 760T was my second choice), but the inbuilt Michelin guides clinched it for me as we drive through europe each year.
I didn't realise until recently that production had stopped and although I wanted the Europe version, by the time I got round to buying everyone has sold out so I ended up with the UK/Ireland version.
I have found someone selling the Europe maps on the original Michelin supplied SD card (latest version 7) and accompanying DVD rom.
Before I go ahead and buy it, will it work on my UK version if the software has been previously installed on another 970T unit?
Thanks. |

Unfortunately, probably not - see end of thread "Instal..Please help!! But others may have different advice.
However - are you referring to an Italian offer on ebay? If so that might be worth following up (with care) as I don't think they have been keyed to a unit, although it's only V6.5 maps advertised (and probably software too, so your user interface might suffer - V7 was a great improvement). I THINK these are ok. May be worth checking details with seller, and see if he has any Version 7s available - you may have noticed that Europe V7 is no longer available from the VM website shop.
Hope that's some help. _________________ David

Hi BigPerk
Thanks very much for your helpful response - I've been meaning to post a reply earlier but have struggled to remember my signon (so many bl**dy passwords to remember nowadays - must be my age).
The security of the ViaMichelin version 7 software is commendable, but very frustrating for even the most experienced of PC users (ie. hackers - which I do not condone but am fairly well versed in) - well done Michelin!
I took 2 routes:-
1. I bought a used 970T New Edition Europe. As you and previous threads have correctly stated, the software cannot be used on other units, even with the original DVD & SD card.
2. I tried the Italian guy on eBay - who I must confess excelled in his customer service. Both DVD's he sent me to install Euro maps v.7 on my unit failed with either "Map could not be opened" or a critical error report. He refunded the full amount - amazing and very much appreciated.
To conclude, I have kept the 970T Euro one I sourced second hand and my UK version is now on eBay.
Bye for now. |
