All,

I have read the various threads on indicator bars and they don't quite answer my problem. I use TT Nav 2.24 with a Leadtek GPS 9532. In my wife’s Golf the unit performs fantastically well. I also have a 1972 reliant scimitar which is fibreglass but has a steel chassis so it is well grounded.

In the scimitar I get excellent satellite reception but after 5 minutes all my red bars go grey and I never get a red bar till I switch off all the power and reset the devices. And then we go round again arrgghhh. I have rerouted the power so it comes direct from the car's battery - still the same symptoms. I then went back to the Golf and it worked perfectly!

Any ideas - or have I just missed something fundamental.

Many thanks,

Mike.

These are symptoms of either poor reception or localised interference. being an older although advanced car (I love Scimitar's!) it is unlikely to have a heated or anti-glare coated windscreen which normally affects reception so it may well be interfrence, possibly a coil that is giving harmonics?

Can you test this by siting the PPC/GPS at the rear of the vehicle away from the engine and seeing if matters improve or relocating the lead from the GPS to the PPC. Routing power directly from the battery may have made matters worse as the power lead may be more prone to picking up interference in the engine bay.
