Not a lot to go on but..
Are you getting connected to the PC? That is - does the unit go into mass storage mode ("computer" icon on top of the nuvi startup splash screen)? This should give you two additional drives on the PC (the nuvi internal and the SD slot). You may need to use the GARMIN supplied USB cable to do this.
When you run Webupdater does it see the nuvi?
What messages (if any) are you getting?
As for the TMC unit - which one was supplied (GARMIN unit number will do) possibly something like GTM12.
Are you getting the message when pluggng it in or when? _________________ Phil |

Which USB port on the Nvi are you plugging the cable into? It needs to be the one on the side not the one on the back. If that isn't the problem then describe in more detail what you are doing and what happens. |

The unit fails to go into MAss storage mode and just loads up as normal.
I'm using the cable supplied in box, and plugging it in to the side by the SD slot.
Webupdater fails to recognise the unit, as do the usb driver thingy !
And it keeps saying this accesory is not supported while I'm driving using the unit, and I have to keep touching the screen to remove the msg.
I'm so fed up I can't find the reciept, otherwise I would of taken it back to argos.
Please help I have such a headace trying to make it work

Have you been to the Garmin website and downloaded the latest update?
Changes made from version 4.90 to 5.00:
Corrected issue where WebUpdater may not find device [/b]
URL is: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00455-01
I suggest you download the zip file onto your pc hard-drive then install rather than use web-updater. |

Good call!
Mind you a Major s/w upgrade (going by the numbers) to fix just one (relatively small) problem?? What gives GARMIN?
sugar-matrix: You mentioned "USB driver thingy" in your last post - you shouldn't need this with XP and/or Vista as far as I recall. _________________ Phil |

downloaded and unziped the file onto computer, but as the computer doesn't recognise the unit, I can't upgrade the sw as it doesn't see the nuvi, have asked the program to find the drive but it still doesn't see it, now seriously considering buying another from argos and returning this one and getting my money back as I don't have proof of purchase, this is soooooo poo !!!

You need the GARMIN supplied lead get it to go into Mass Storage mode as far as I know. My 660 certainly won't go into mass storage with any miniUSB-USB cable I own (and that is lots!) only with the supplied GARMIN lead. _________________ Phil |

I'd try three things before going back to Argos
1) Try hard ware reset on your device
2) Check other programs on the PC are not hogging the USB port on the computer. Check bottom right hand corner of windows screen and see which applications are running. You may have a camera, phone, MP3 application running which is already using the USB port. If so, right click on application icon and close the application.
3) Uninstall and reinstall Garmin applications - Web updater, poiloader |

It may be unit specific that it does not work with the 660 because I have used usb cables from my card reader,spv500 phone and vivitar camera and they work ok on a Quest,gpsmap60c and a nuvi300 .
Edit: but I realise that the latter is the only one that has mass storage.as do the 3 items I can use the leads from.

Got my new Garmin nuvi 300 and it works a dream, lobbed the poorly one back in the box and took it back to Argos and got a refund, now that was certainly easier and less stressful than sending it back to Garmin !!!
I'm happy the nuvi is happy, and it updated

I'm popping this up as I'm having problems with a 760 and maybe someone has this thread flagged for e:mail and can help.
