TomTom on vodaphone v1615

I have been provided with a Vodaphone v1615 that has tom tom 6 provided/built in. I laready own tom tom navigotor 5 plus europe maps from an earlier pda. The 1615 wont accept nav 5. Contacted Tomtom they say phones not compatible with 5 I need to buy maps for 6.
Anyone got any ideas how I can get the maps to work?
The v1615 is the same as a o2 xda stellar and I believe the HTC 3600.
