just got a 770 today. I thought it was supposed to have a QWERTY keyboard?

a bit infuriating that you can't play with the thing while USB charging....

and no SD card. so have ordered one via amazon.

how do you turn off sat search to use indoors? - its driving me mad

I use in my motorhome so like to use the bean bag mount that I have from my old 2610. unfortunately window fitting does not fit friction mount. all I want is the right angled ball fitting. I can get a 5 piece kit, Part Number:010-10723-04 for £20 but I only want one bit.....

had a brief run with it today using FM transmitter. can you not listen to radio and does not unit interrupt automatically with instructions? I thought it did this......

I followed instructions and tuned it into a blank channel.

I may be wrong as I do not own the garmin 770 but guess you can change the keyboard through the menu !!

Regarding the SD card unless the maps are on an SD card it is normal to have to purchase one !!

1) QWERTY Keyboard - Tools, Settings, System, Keyboard layout

2) Turn Sat Nav off indoors - Tools, Settings, System, Set GPS Simulator to ON

3) FM Transmitter - I'm afraid you can't. You have to tune the Nuvi to a free frequency to hear the Nuvi over the radio over wise you end up with a mess.

4) USB Charging - Yes it is. I ordered a Mains charger as a) it's quicker b) i don't like leaving a Mass Storage Drive open an unattended in my PC. c) We're taking ours abroad later this year.

Most of the above is covered in the manual available here - 1.58 MB PDF

Brilliant!

and thanks again for the manual. regards FM, I think only the new 880 does this but at over twice the price without US maps - Mmm.....

Going to Antibes in south of France at Easter so will see how it performs then. i have waited for years to upgrade, and at last have a unit where I can download routes from PC (which In can do with 2610)

Used it today not on FM or else how do you listen to the radio?

Sound quality is abysmal! this unit is very poor in terms of quality compared with my prehistoric 2610 which feels bomb proof in comparison.

They must Know sound is rubbish why else have an audio jack.

So do I have to get an external speaker to use in my motorhome? what a mess that will be with traffic leads, power leads etc....

decidedly unimpressed

Can you clarify what sound quality you are talking about? Also where are you located?

Yes that's why i consider the FM transmitter a gimmick and not a deciding factor when buying it.

So the headphone jack couldn't be so you can use it as an mp3 player instead of having a separate iPod etc or to use on foot discretely as it has a pedestrian mode? The sound quality on my 760 is fine. I admit it distorts a bit at 100% but 90% is fine. If you can be more specific with the problems we might be able to help. They wouldn't just add a headphone jack to "hide" the "rubbish" sound.

the quality of spoken directions from inbuilt speaker.

more or less inaudible at 80% and still distorted at 90% If this bad in my car it is going to be hopeless in my motorhome......

I live in London?

The FM transmitter will always be poor in London. Too many pirate radio stations and not enough clear frequencies.

As for the volume sounds like you have a duff speaker. Mines fine, maybe get a replacement? Have you tried changing voices? Are you using Text To Speech Voices?

I suspect you are using the default female Text To Speech (TTS) Voice - if so it'll read out street names as you go. These are a lot quiter than the non TTS voices. Try changing it to English, it'll be louder but won't reead out street names.

Yes, have changed as you suggest to non TTS "British English" still a bit tinny but it seems a lot clearer.

at least I should now be able to hear it above radio.

so if listening to mp3/audio book etc you cant use as GPS at same time?

thanks for your patience Paul :-)

yes but earlier models suffered a bug when playing an mp3 where it would skip forward a track when an instruction was read out. Not sure if the 7xx series suffers this.
