Hi

I have attempted to pair my girlfriend's new Nokia N73 which is on the Three network here in the UK, however it pairs fine, but struggles to sort out the wireless connection properly.

Is there any kind of problem with phones on Three?

I currently use a Motorola Krzr K1 on Orange but am due to upgrade soon.

Mine is working on 3 but did have problems getting it to connect. It didn't work until software version 7.131 (from memory). Then, it stuck for ages at 65% but then let me choose options myself. The phone and network were in the list so I could choose the defaults it gave me.

You may also have to check with 3 that your pone has an internet connection available (being able to use the internet on the phone itself is a different thing). Can't remember if I had to go to them or not to be honest.

Remember that, with the XL, you will be able to get traffic updates etc but will not be able to use it for handsfree calling.

Having recently sent my E51 off for repair, I had to go back to my age old Nokia N80 of late.

And FIVE times I gave up on this pairing process, as it kept failing (stopping doing nothing) at around 60%.

OR SO I THOUGHT!

Believe it or not, when I tried the sixth time, I left it at 60% for ages - I mean at least thirty minutes...

I came back at it was at 65% !!!

Then after a while, it eventually gave me the "Failed to setup automotically" message, "Do you wish to manually configure"

I chose yes and ok'd the exact same settings the device offered me...

Three times it said it still could not set it up.

Then on the fourth time, it OK'd everything.

And the phone has worked flawlessly since then.

So the moral, if any here, is leave it for ages and ages - at least half an hour, if it seems to have stopped around the 60% mark or so...

Stick with it, be mega patient, and see if it eventually does actually configure it ok, OR fail with the message asking if you want to try manually.

Then set up using the default settings offered manually, and see if that works.

But patience seems to be the key - LOTS of it alas.

Thanks for that. I eventually managed to get the N73 to pair up properly after waiting at least half an hour.

On a slight tangent, what do I do if I get to this stage and my phone's not on the "Manual" list? I've tried to connect my Nokia 6120 Classic but to no avail.

How often do TomTom update their compatible phones?! All the ones listed on their site are at least a year old!

You choose "other", and then configure in the same way, choosing from the relevant Country, Operator, and then ok'ing the offered settings each time.

In reality, there is little difference to the end result between the two methods.

And yes, it's an OLD list - the N95 is the newest device I've noticed on it.

EDIT: 6120c should work fine, as this is what I was using prior to my E51, also not on the list.

I think I first did it pretending it was an N95, as this uses the exact same Symbian version and Feature Pack etc.

If that fails though, simply use "Other" at the foot of the phone list, then do the manual options as I describe.

HTH.
