I currently have the TT One V2 and understand from these forums that the One V2 because the data stream is updated at 1 second intervals and currently there seems a little lag of my position on the maps whilst moving (especially round bends/roundabouts etc) makes no differance what SD card I use and currently have the Sandisk Ultra Extreme III (read/write speed of 20Mb/sec)

This is my main reason for wanting a upgrade to the TT 520 and wondered if the 520 has the same problem or it a lot smoother?

Any ideas before i bite the bullet Rolling Eyes

Cheers

Positional data is updated at one reading per second on virtually all consumer grade GPS equipment and this certainly applies to the TomTom range from the lowest to the highest specification device they market.

That said the display should update more frequently try turning off the custom POI's and see if it improves as this is known to affect the PDA versions and the PNA units don't like it if you load up too many POI files. Go to Change Preferences/ Show POI On Map and de-select the whole lot, use Change Preferences/ Manage POI/ Warn When Near POI instead to pop a warning up when close to a POI - its worth a try - Mike

tried this before and made no differance and only use pocket gps camera's on warn when close just wonderd if the higher CPU in the 520 would make a differance

Well my 720 performs without a problem in use in terms of screen refresh and thats the same hardware platform with a little more internal flash memory for map data storage, I have never seen the map slow down on a One Third Edition though either - other than when lots of custom POI files are added (which seem to be enabled by default, thus slowing the unit down) - Mike

What's your definition of "without a problem" Mike?

My TT 720 screen updates / refreshes about 3 times per sec.
I might be remembering with rose -tinted glasses, but think my old Go300 WAS smoother.

I would agree its about 3 FPS, although I have seen far worse when loads of custom POI files were installed on the One Third edition - never experianced this on the 720 though - Mike

Can't comment on how often per second it seems to refresh, BUT I can comment on location accuracy lag in terms of the TT 720.

As my old device, my CoPilot on my Pocket PC, was smooth in drawing and turning, BUT, always had my location maybe a second or even more behind - that is, going under a bridge, I was actually under the bridge for real, when the device showed my location as just approaching the bridge etc.

This was consistent in all aspects - i.e approaching a roundabout when actually just upon it for real.

My TT 720 however, doesn't seem 'quite' as smooth in terms of drawing, but that might just be me.

But it is surprisingly (and I hope I am not tempting fate here), the most accurate in terms of locational placement lag, of any sat-nav device I have used, including Nokia phones etc.

As when going under a bridge, it shows me at the bridge, when I really am passing under.

Crossing a river, it shows me over the water, just when I am (and that's not bad, as often this is a map, not a location issue, in terms of the map thinking the river is narrower than it really is).

And at junctions and roundabouts, it shows me at them, just when I really am.

This is one thing about my TT that I am really impressed with, or more accurately put, this one one aspect of my CoPilot, that I was disappointed with)

HTH.

On my GO 510 the screen update is noticably slower since upgrading to version 7 firmware.

Maybe its the extra processing time needed to draw the new (slightly raised looking) 3D map view? If so I'd like an option to switch this gimmic off and return to reasonable screen updates.

The problem is most noticable when going around a roundabout and can sometimes lead to confusion over which is the correct exit to take as the cursor can be lagging a complete exit behind the real vehicle position.
