MDPNA 175 - disappearing start screen

I have updated my friends (i dont know for how long) sat nav maps navigator 5 on his mdpna 175, after the hard reset the software installs the start screen appears with settings, mp3 player and navigation icons. when pressing one of the 3 icons. The next screen says the software is not installed even after installation after the hard reset, press ok to install and then the nav software installs ?. The nav software opens and works ok but then after quiting the nav software, the screen goes blank, switch off and back on and the medion screen appears minus the mp3 ,settings and nav icons, how do i get the sat nav back to normal
