Hi,

Having given up on PDA phones with tomtom a while back as being too troublesome, and having extensively used a 510 and latterly a 520, I'm thinking of dipping my toe in the water again with a smartphone / tomtom combination. I currently have a HTC s710 (Orange SPV E650)(Windows Mobile v6) and wondered if anyone has any experience of it with tomtom?

Alternatively, I rather like the Nokia N95 for its camera abilities and have heard that there is a way of making tom tom work on that. Can anyone advise please?

TomTom works on the N95; the only thing is you can't use the internal GPS for it.

I have an HTC TyTn II with Windows Mobile 6 on it which now works very well with TomTom Traffic via GPRS but........

it wouldn't work at all until I loaded a .cab file sent to me by Mike Alder. There is something missing from the Mobile 6 application which means you MUST load this .cab file before it can work. You can find it in the threads on this site.

I also had major problems at first when I paired the phone with the TT from the phone. Eventually I deleted all the connections and started again but this time I did the pairing from the TT and after that everything has worked OK

(I am also extremely impressed with the HTC TyTn II as a piece of kit too. It actually has TT Navigator loaded on it though you need to purchase the maps separately. However I decided to stick with my TT720 and so don't use that functionality on the phone)

What I meant, Tim, was that it isn't written in stone that I will use my HTC s710 if I decide to try tomtom on a phone. Whilst the HTC is a great phone, I do find the WM6 organiser a bit naff. I much prefer Nokias menus and I rather fancy the N95 because the camera is pretty good for a phone.

I have an orange e650 with tomtom mobile 5 (with external bluetooth GPS) and it installed and worked without a hitch.

I was slightly surprised as I am an old time user of TomTom and have been used to lockups etc.

I use both TOMTOM and the phone (bluetooth handsfree kit) on long journeys and it has not failed.

I believe this is probably mainly due to WM6.

Battery life is not much different to normal use, if you switch off the backlight or better still have the phone powered.

Hope this helps.

I have used Nokia phones (N70, E50 an E65) with TomTom and an external blue tooth receiver for some time and have had almost no problems at all. Great setup as it means I don't have to have two devices. The receiver sits in the ash tray in the car and works perfectly even with the lid down
