It gives you a wider view of the roads ahead.......

See Garmins website for a comparison.

You don't say what brand you're thinking of....
But if you were thinking of the TomTom range, and the ONE or the ONE XL in particular....
The ONE "3rd Edition" is the latest version, and that has several "cut-down" or missing features compared to the rest of the range, so the widescreen XL would be a better choice in my opinion.

and to answer the original query, the 250 and 250w are exactly the same units so it really is personal preference as to whether you want the extra width...

have play with them in a shop to see which you prefer!

If you look at the http://www.find-satnav-deals.com/ web site

the 250 is £114
the 200 wide is £120-99
the 250 wide is £143

I suggest you check the Garmin site out and do a compare!! and try to have a look at them at the local shops at the end of the day its really down to you how much you want to spend and if you feel the extra cash outlay is worth it .

Don't forget to include in the cost of £19 for membership to the speed camera data base on this site ( if you are not already a subscriber) to be honest its worth just buying a sat nav to able to receive the safety warnings

speed camera data base - does this tell you where all the speed cameras are etc ?

also what other features would the 250 have ?
can you save ceratin routes ?
does it give altitude ?
can you upload pictures and insert them at certain locations ?

You may find the menu structure 'works' better for you with a wide screen. E.G. The "Where to.." menu will have more options displayed on the screen, saving you from scrolling down. This is purely cosmetic of course - as MaFt said - go and have a play with them.
