Just a little curious..
Is there a reason why the camera database files are not named and dated, as to their release date/area covered?
I download the new releases when posted, but one doesn't really know (once downloaded) which database has been downloaded.
eg I have just downloaded pgpsw-speed-cams-xxxx, and pgpsw-speed-cams-xxx. Now, I know that one is the UK consolidated, and the other Eurocams, but I could find myself not knowing which database I have loaded :-(
Am I being "thick" here?? ;-)
Maybe I could re-name the files once downloaded, as long as this has no impact on the database (after all, it is only a file name, but I have changed file names of other applications before, which causes the application to fail to work). Guess I could try this with the cam bases.
Wouldn't it be so much easier to have them named from the start though?

Oi, I'm a Mac user and it have no restriction on length of file names! Indeed Mac OS had long file names years before Windows

Cheers MaFt. I was actually referring to the zip file name.
Not a real BIG issue, as if one is not too sure, then it may always be downloaded again.
The zip files are created on the fly from a master database. The last part of the filename is a random code which forms part of our anti-piracy measures. It might be possible to add the file type when they are created but to the best of my knowledge you are the first to have asked!
Is it a big problem? Surely you just unzip the file, copy to your device and that's it? I also copy across the release.txt file which reminds me which version of the database I have installed. _________________ Darren Griffin

"Oops" Touched a nerve regarding the Macs! :-)
Not a BIG issue, Darren, merely a query/question, as per my original post (only due to the fact that today when I downloaded the latest release, I downloaded the same file ywice, and installed them, and THEN I checked Dohhhhhh!!
THAT is when I thought it may have been an idea to have them (zips) idented.
Cheers for your times guys.
Hey "to the best of my knowledge you are the first to have asked!". There ALWAYS has to be a First. Shows how complacent all the others are ;-)

Easy workround.
Whenever you download anything, first make a new folder called whatever you like including the date and/or version number. Then download the zip file into that, and the subsequent extraction will also end up in that folder if you don't change any defaults.
Bear in mind, though, that my original question was just that, a question as to why the date and name wasn't included in the file name, to save any confusion.
Whenever I download the db I create a folder (eg) PocketGPS150208, and within that another folder with the Euro cams ident.

I also copy the "release.txt" file onto the satnav. That contains the date the data was compiled.
Not sure what unit you have, but on the TomTom x20 models, you can put that file in the "text" folder and display it on-screen.
As for why the name of the zipfile can't include the date, I don't know; but I think the names are generated AS you download, so each download can be uniquely identified.
