Sorry, having a little trouble understanding your typing, can you post again and explain the problem in a slightly different way?
When I enter a city, the screen lists all the places the TT "thinks" I may have said.
I then have to say the number next to the correct one to move on to the street, where the same thing is repeated for the street name.
Is that what happens for you?
Also, are you using the "Spoken address" or the "Spoken address (Dialogue)" option? |

I don't know the Dutch for ONE, but maybe Een? You must speak Dutch to the TomTom if that is the language you are using. _________________ Dennis

I'm sure that's how mine used to work, but I've just tried it and there are no numbers next to the given cities, and no lips in the corner of the screen. Once I've touched the city I want, the lips appear again for speaking the street but again, after speaking the street, no numbers and no lips.
I wonder if this is the result of a firmware 'upgrade'. As I don't use the feature I don't know when it stopped working properly. Is it still working for the rest of you after firmware changes? _________________ Anita

I'm not getting the numbers either Anita but the lips are still there on the bottom right and still works as in after speaking the city and selecting it, it then asks for the street and so on until it get to the screen "Do you want to arrive at a specified time. I'm on version as below. _________________ Graham.

My 720 (#7) has same firmware/app and map details as xda.
My 920 has same firmware/app, but W&CE map v710.1576
Dialogue for navigation is as always - City list has numbers, so does street list. Make sure you choose the right one - Spoken address (doesn't have numbers), Spoken address (dialogue) has number list. In both cases, my lips are top right. _________________ Dennis

Thanks, Dennis. I was using Spoken Address. Another senior moment! Andy had already asked cyberbot if he was using the right one and I still got it wrong!

Apologies for being so long to reply, cyberbot I have been having some computer problems.
Here is a picture of the selection screen. There are two icons for speech, but one has a hand, which means you will have to touch the screen to select the city, street etc. The other shows "sound" comimng from the lips and you need to tap this one - I have put a circle round it, because I don't know what it will say in Dutch.

Funny you should say that. When I posted it yesterday, I originally included an explanatory description and like Paul said, it totally crashed the pgpsw site - I was stuck unable to do anything except watch MOTD2 (without any crisps). _________________ Dennis

|
|
Hi everybody,
I have just joined this site in the hope someone can help me decide if buying the TOMTOM 720T OR GARMIN 760T
One of the things I am most interested to find in a SAT NAV is a good automatic recalculation of route in case of roadworks or traffic. I quite like the feature where you can speak the address (voice recognition?) although, having an foreign accent that may not work so well. I would much appreciate to have some informed feedback. Perhaps you can email me
Many thanks. |

Welcome to the forum, I removed your e-mail address from your post as putting this in public can attract spam e-mail, use the PM system or forum for discussions as it is more open.
The RDS-TMC receivers that are currently sold in this country are at best described as a postcode lottery as to their effectiveness, they work in some areas better than others, in some locations they hardly work at all.
I have used Garmin, TomTom and Navman RDS-TMC units and they all suffer from reception problems, what I do like with the Navman product is the ability to connect an external aerial to improve reception quality - but this shouldn't be necessary.
Once you have a reliable reception the next issue is quality of data, being told there is a delay when the road is clear is both frustrating and negates the purpose of the technology, sadly neither of the TMC data providers are very good IMHO, the technology is in its infancy and we can but hope it will improve.
You don't just need to have a foreign accent for the spoken commands not to work, my 720 clearly will not work with my Northern UK accent, it is a source of entertainment for the kids but to be honest I have long since abandoned using this "feature" - Mike |
