I have a Tomtom One XL, is there any way to set the default zoom levels
Bascally, when I'm driving on the motorway I want to be able to see what towns, motorway junctions and major roads are around me. Sort of the level of detail you'd get looking at a paper road atlas. But Tomtom shows things at a more local scale, with residential streets visible and only a radius of about half a mile. |

Normally, it is zoomed out when there's a distance to the next turn then it zooms in as you get near the turn itself. There's also the zoom in/out controls but I wouldn't play with that while driving. You can also try the 2D display which will show what's around you in a different way.
You have to remember that the TomTom is trying to get you to where you want to go - not have a look at what you are driving past. _________________ Gerry

Yes I know... I use 2D but still the scale of the map when between junctions and driving at 70mph is still geared towards detailed road layouts rather than major roads and towns.
I do a lot of exploratory driving with work, where I don't know where I want to go, I'm driving from town to town, trying to cover an area and find anything of interest, rather than driving where I have a planned route. I would like to be able to see on my Tom Tom where the turnings I'm driving past are going to and more importantly, do they go anywhere at all. |

Can't really think of a way to do this with the TomTom. Best I can think of is to look at the route (the motorway bit at least) before you go via Browse Map to see what towns you will pass etc before you set out.
Apart from zooming out when you want to, I don't know anyway of changing the zoom level. _________________ Gerry

On the x20 devices there is an option to turn off the auto zoom, this is missing from the options on the One XL so there is little you can do about it to be honest - Mike |
