Hi,
I was wondering if you are likely to be splitting the database to include a new category for the Redspeed devices.

It's great that they show up as a 50mph gatso type camera, but can you create a specific category that shows them on the map with a 50mph symbol and a redlight icon to make doubly sure it doesn't get you for either of its functions.

Thanks,

What database are you using? Also what Sat Nav?

I use the Consolidated one so i get a RedLight (Traffic Light) symbol when it appears, not a GATSO symbol.

A RedSpeed Camera with show as REDLIGHT:12345

A Dual function RedLight / Speed Camera shows as REDLIHUJT:12345@50

In the speedzoned files from this site, they show up with the speed limit as if they were gatsos but have the description REDSPEED12345@30. It's possible they may be split out into their own section in time but there are not really enough of them at present and it would also affect many users due to the limit of POI categories you can use.

I suspect that they won't split it up on the normal database download as it wouldn't just mean another category, but another 6 or 7 new categories (all the speeds plus unknown).
However, it's easy enough to split it up yourself.
Using POI Edit, you can load up the Gatso files, filter it out by the "Red" and then the speeds and save them as separate categories.

(Edited by AP as I'd forgotten (until MaFt just reminded us Embarassed ), that the Redspeeds are now grouped in with the Gatsos NOT the Redlight category).

REDSPEED have been grouped with GATSO's for a while now - do you use Ash10's camera manager as that may move them around...?

I use the original Camera Updater.

However i didn't realise any were actually named REDSPEED. I thought a REDLIGHT camera was just REDLIGHT:12345 and a REDSPEED would be REDLIGHT:12345@50.

Remembering now.. they were put into the Gatso sections so that they would show up at the correct speed on devices (eg TomTom) that only show the CATEGORY title not the individual POI entry's title when it shows a warning. If they weren't, they would just show up as a generic redlight cam with no speed indication irrespective of whether it had it in the name.

Now I'm confused ...

What is the difference between a REDLIGHT with speed, e.g.
-4.23426,55.86877,"REDLIGHT:20749@30",260,1

and a REDSPEED?
e.g.
-3.08828,51.01681,"REDSPEED:20575@30",225,1

Are they not the same thing?

REDSPEED camera entries are for cameras KNOWN to be combined speed and redlight cameras (ie they work as a speed camera when the lights are green). "redspeed" is actually a trade name for one brand of them, see HERE.

REDLIGHT cameras only work to show cars going through the red light and, at a guess, may have the speed limit data attached just for completeness, and in case anyone wants to produce their own "Speed-zoned redlight" files.

Thanks Andy.
Can you be *sure* about which red light cameras have the dual function?

When I were a lad in the Highways Department, induction loops were what vehicles set going to make the traffic lights change (I once sat for a VERY long time waiting because my moped wasn't metallic enough to activate them).
