Hey! I linked to that last night and didn't even notice..... 
Plus yesterday Garmin e-mailed me to say

I use the Non-NT version on my personal two units as they came with two un-lock codes in the past. There are no updates for the Non-NT yet, but at least you can view the maps online, today, to see if it is worth updating.
I think the MetroGuide will be the cheapest option in the future for the four units in the family, until they lock that! |

| I was going to post how you can get the proper unlock code but theres the legality issue, so I guess i'll abide by the forum rules. |

if there's a legality issue, then it's not really a proper unlock code, is it?!

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
Have you considered making a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!
