Hi there

Just seen on TomTom's site that they're advertising 'New' maps of Western Europe for £39.95. The offer is available until the end of January 2008. I'm tempted, but the maps are version 6.75, which I thought had been out for some time?

Could anybody clarify?

Gary.

Dan,

For Navigator, which is what this thread was listed as, maps are v6.75. TT have not released v7 for Navigator yet, they may not even do so.

Gary,

My experience has been that if you take up the offer, when it ends a better product comes out and you would have been better waiting. i suppose it depends on your situation.

Hmmm, given the rumoured release of Navigator version 7, presumably with updated maps, I think I'll bide my time.

Cheers,

Gary.

Conversley they may just do what they did at V6 release. They released a backwards compatible version of the 'new' 660 maps for v5 Nav users.

Hi philpugh
Yes, Tomtom did release a backwards compatible version of the 'new' 660 maps for v5, God bless em. I downloaded the map and stayed with TT5 and have no regrets. Its as good as one can get. I doubt if a future TT7 will get one to ones destination any better. Oh I know that a TT7 will come with all kinds of bells and whistles but its navigation (and navigation is what its all about) capability will remain the same..

I've had an email from TomTom offering me the new map at 50%. I currently have WE version 6.6 (which I originally purchased for TTN5 then upgraded to TTN6 later). Does anyone know if there would be enough improvement to be worth spending £39.95 to upgrade please?

Also, the email says I need to upgrade Home to version 2.1. Am I wrong, or is 2.1 incompatible with Navigator 6?

It also says I'll get a free year of Map Share, but I know that doesn't work with Navigator.

I'm tempted to save the £39.95 and get a TT One Europe from Amazon for £129. I wonder what map version I'd get then. Also I'm concerned that it's a 3rd edition so, no SD card slot and some people seem to have had a lot of problems with them.

Anyone got any advice please? Confused

Hi Calomax
I have the maps of Western Europe 6.6 on my Dell Axim and use TT5. I have seen the updated maps version but I thought that the benefits were minimal. However, If Tomtom do keep updating then I suppose the day will arrive when I will decide to update but only time will tell.
As for saving your money and buying the all in one from Amazon, well, its your choice. I recently borrowed my son’s Tomtom710 and apart from the voice commands being louder I still preferred my PDA with TT5.

Since I got the TomTom software effectively for free I've bought the maps for £40 and that's all I've had to pay Smile

But that's all it's worth IMO :P
