Just got a brand new 670 today. Uploaded the speed camera database and custom poi's using the poi software, and now the system does not get past the "loading maps" message.
Any ideas? |

Cheers for that.
Being a natural experimeter I decided to try and fix it myself - I've managed it!
Basicaly in my excitement to play with my new unit I installed all the custom pois available here, and didn't read the warning that installing too many would prevent the unit from booting.
Neither poiloader nor web updater would recognise the device, unless I put it into "preboot" mode. I found this mode by accident by holding down the start button. Sadly, though web updater recognised the nav, it wouldn't update the firmware ( I had read that 4.1 allows many custom poi's).
So after a bit of lateral thinking I nicked a sd card from a digital picture frame, downloaded 4.1, stuck that on the card and the card into the nuvi.
Now here's where I got lucky. I spent an age playing round with various combo's of power/reset buttons. After about an hour I literally put the unit down on the sofa, giving up when hey presto: a message "loading software" appears.
Nothing seem to happen after this, but after shutting the unit down and on again - eureka - now updated with 4.1 from sd card, from a no boot situation.
Must basically have flashed the firmware from the sd card. Don't know if this is a recognised technique for recovering "broken" units, but if not I thought I'd share. Sorry I can't be specific about what combo of reset/power forced the unit into "software loading" mode but there is one and it does work.

Glad that you solved it. I had a similar problem a few months ago when my 660 got to the loading maps message and then shut down again. That was after I switched it off during its boot up process and seemed to be totally irrecoverable. My solution is described here:
