Looked up the post on getting a bigger card.

Took advice & bought a Kingston 2 GB Card.

Stuck it in Tom Tom, nothing.

Reread the post & went & bought a card reader!!

Done everything on the post, Backed it up,copied it etc.

Everytime I try to put the new bigger card into the Tom Tom a red cross apperars on the card symbol.

Any tips please, this is driving me nuts!

Thanks for any advice.

Can you see the card when it is in the ONE and you connect the ONE to your PC? Are you 100% certain you have copied across all files and folders from the existing card?

What is the make and model of the card?

Morning Darren,

It's a Kingston Card.

I am off out now, when I get back I am going to see if it can see the card when the TT is connected to my PC.

Thanks for replying.

Regards

Darren, Thanks for your help.

I eventually wiped everything off the SD Cad & started again, there was 1 file I had missed so it works great.

2 GB file great.

I have a question for you, I have now got enough space to download the latest Tom Tom 21 stuff from their home page & backed it up.

When I do this, does it give me info on updated stuff EG. new roads one way street chaNGES IN tOWNS ETC?

tHANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP.

kIND REGARDS.

Not really sure what you mean here...
What is "Tom Tom 21 stuff"?

Nothing you can download will give you new roads etc. except buying a new map which will cost you £30 or so for a UK one, more for Europe.

Changes to EXISTING roads such as new One-way streets can be downloaded for free by joining TomTom's "Map Share" scheme.
For that to work you need v7 software (free) and version 6.75 or any version 7 map.

P.S. Which post told you that you needed to go and buy a card reader?
You can do everything you need using the TomTom itself to write to the card.

Most likely in another topic where Mike said a card reader was the better option. Mine is in the PC's drive bay, connected directly to the MB, can read all SD, Compact flash, MMC Memory Sticks Micro drives etc. Also has built in formating software. 5 SD cards I have that the Go 720 won't read are read by the card reader and usable in other devices.

Sorry, slip of the cursor!

I meant to write, Tom Tom 1 downloads.

As I download the latest stuff from the Tom Tom Homepage, what do I actually get?

Is it updated maps & info?
Sorry about the cursor slip!

Kind regards.

I don't think there is anything much you can download direct from their actual website (www.tomtom.com) except new versions of TT Home and the little utility to clear the flashRom if that is causing problems like not being able to save settings or activate e a newly purchased map.

If you mean connecting using TomTom's utility program "Home", then that is now their preferred way to get updates etc.

It is a bit flakey at times, but the idea is that you have an account with TT using your email address and that links to your unit, so it knows what maps etc you own. It should scan your machine when you connect and offer you any free downloads like operating software, Mapshare map corrections and satellite Quickfix data (if your unit uses it).
It also lets you download new voices (some free, some to be paid for), new maps (all to be paid for), and lets you subscribe to their Traffic Warning service and their camera database.

Thanks for that.

I have downloaded some free POI'S from a site.

It shows in my PC file as a zipped file.
How do I open it & save it so I can use it on my Tom Tom 1?

Thanks.

Kind regards

when you have downloaded the file you require all you need to do is go to extract all files in the top left of the page and then click next and this will open the folder next to the folder that is zipped then you can open the folder and copy the contents to your TT or if you cannot see the extract link simply right click on the zipped icon and you will see it in there.

If you have Winzip just Double Click the File and it will Open.

If you don't have Winzip and are using XP, you can Right Click the File and choose Extract.

In either case the extracted files come in pairs: poiname.ov2 and poiname.bmp

These pairs are then copied to the Map Folder.
