I have got a TT520 and am unable to get the SD card recognised when in the Tom Tom although TT Home recognises it. I am using a standard Kingston 512 card that worked ok in my TT500.
I have reformatted the card as FAT32 installed the application and created a folder mp3 (lower case) on the card.
When the SD card is in the unit it gets to the tomtom picture screen then turns off and tries to reboot then goes off again
Apparently when turning on it checks if there is an Sd card in first if not it uses the internal memory information. If I put the SD card in when the unit is on and turn the unit off a grey blank screen appears for about 20 seconds then goes off.I have tried reformatting again but when checking for updates it does not now offer the option to download the application. Is there a link so that i can download it another way?
I am wanting to put mp3's on my card.
Anybody else come across this

I have tried loads of memory cards in my 720, I only appear to have two that will work with it!
Most of my cards are Kingston and the 720 seems to reject them on boot up, I should add the memory cards I have are from a couple of years ago, the newer ones seems to work as I purchased higher speed cards.

Do you know what speed the cards are in terms of read/ write? - Mike

With the x20 you do not need the application on the card as the unit will use both the internal flash memory AND the storage card when inserted. I only use my SD card for music, for this simply create a folder called "mp3" (no "" in the folder name), this folder needs to be in the root of the memory card, then place your mp3 tracks/ folders in it.
Another use for the memory card is additional maps, sadly at the moment Audio Books have to go on the device as they will not play if mounted on the memory card.

As for which ones work, get a good high speed card, not the cheaper ones from e-bay etc - Mike

I have an Integral High Speed 2Gb card in my GO520, but I only have maps on it, no mp3 files. It works fine, though.

One little thing to be aware of....
As others above have said, as well as using the SD card to REPLACE the internal Flash Memory (if present) on any model; on the 520 and 720 ONLY, you can also use the SD card as additional storage for mp3s etc.

If you have got a card in the slot at the time you re-boot the TomTom, the first thing you will see on screen is a graphic showing the SD card with a red cross through it. This does not mean it is no good, just that the program wasn't found on it so the system is moving on to find it on the Flash memory.

I (temporarily) used a Transcend 150x 2GB card for mp3s successfully.
