Hi

I am just about to take delivery of a new car without navigation and I am buying the TomTom 720.

Do they have a hard wire kit so that I can take power directly from the car instead of through the power socket?

Regards

Idgam

Not yet, but many people do a semi-permanent install by just wiring an in-line cigar lighter socket behind the dash, and plugging the normal power adapter into that.

Thanks for that. Sorry to be a pain but do you happen to know where I may find the information to do this?

The new car (apparently) does not have a power socket in the front and I do not want to trail a cable to the rear sockets.

It's been written up on this forum a few times, try doing a search for "Maplin" in just the TomTom section of the forum, as that is where people have suggested getting the in-line socket from.

To give you an start, here's the socket. Basically, you get that wired to a spare way in the fusebox (or safely tapped into an existing feed), then plug the standard power adapter into it and hide it all up behind the dashboard.
