Hey, I live in the states, i've been contemplating to buy the Tomtom one. However, the only thing deterring me is that i would rather buy the 3rd edition because it has better features but they don't offer that for the states, i don't want to spend $300+ on their Go editions.

so the question is, should i just go along with the One, or should i wait blindly for Tomtom to come out with something new for the states. or should i buy a gps as good as tomtom for around the same price

The third edition device has lost certain hardware, there is no Bluetooth on the device, so non of the "Plus" services are present (weather, Buddies, Traffic using GPRS) the external GPS aerial socket is missing and you have no SD memory card slot the Third edition uses Flash memory built in.
It does however have an RDS-TMC socket for the FM receiver optional extra, so traffic information is possible but it uses the inferiour FM system. Then there are the missing menu icons - have a read of This Thread for some idea of the new Third edition - Mike

I don't quite follow what you mean as the third edition is also a One??

At the end of the day the newer Third Edition gets you the version seven software with Map Share and Help guides working, it also contains the very latest mapping. Bear in mind the limitted functionality pertaining to Custom POI and Itenerary planning (which can be re-enabled if required). - Mike

Confusion is abound at the moment when it comes to the TomTom One and the various versions, the One V3 does indeed have Bluetooth, BUT the TomTom One Third Edition does not - they are different devices even though they both say TomTom One on the box. - Mike

There is a big big difference between TT1and third edition.
Third edition doesn't work. I am on mt 3rd and they keep crashing and rebooting, always at most inoportune times. Do not buy until you know for sure that it will work.
When it does work it is better than TT1.
