Hi,

Dont know if is the correct forum for this question but here goes.

I have a CF GPS which works very well on PPC2002 machines but I have upgraded to the HP h5550 with PPC2003. The GPS is seen by TomTom Navigator 2 and other apps. but no data flows on the HP. The same happens on a 3970 machine upgraded to PPC 2003 The GPS is seen as an ATD 010_CF_GPS_Card and uses NMEA 0183v2 4800 protocol. It has a label saying it is a model D157N GPS.

HP say that it the GPS that needs updating (they would) and that it is a problem that PPC2003 has introduced. I am told that the drivers for the CF version of the CRUX II allow the GPS t work on a PC and I assume it is basicaly the same as my unit.

Has anyone got any views as to how I can resolve this problem or had any similar experiences?

Some older GPS's did have problems in WM2003 and required a firmware update or at worst sending back to the manufacturer to replace/patch. 95% of cards were okay though, it's just a small handful of card's that did have a problem.

Your best way is to track the manufacturer down and try and contact them, I've done a search for D157N GPS on Google and come up with a lot of pages, one shows it as an EMTAC.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in coming back.

I have been on to the manufacturer and we seem to have pinned the problem down to being a difference in the way PPC2003 works. The problem seems to be that 2003 asignes COM ports differently. Emtac are fairly sure that its not down to their card.

Apparently it is associated with the way Bluetooth works. Certainly the interface for adding a modem in 2003 seems far less flexible than in 2002. I'm not sure there will be a solution but to buy a new GPS (my Emtac was 2 years old yesterday!) an expensive solution.
