Hi All,

I have had the above set up for some time now. I wish to buy a new set up and I think I want a stand alone Sat Nav, I do not use the pda for anything other than sat nav these days.

I am used to the way Tom Tom works. I would like to retain the features below.

a) Speed Camera full zoned downloads from this site. Full spoken warnings.

b) Downloadable and also custom POis

c) Full uk up to date maps (as much as practical), europe maps would be good too as I have them at present and use them for hols at least once a year.

d) I tow a caravan frequently , so some sttings to compensate for this would be useful.

e) A maximum price of £200 less if possible.

f) My present set up with a mouse gps causes real frustration in hot weather and always has, sometimes taking 15- 20 minutes to fix on a hot day.

g) Hand held use on foot whilst on holiday abroad, so a good battery life would be useful.

h) I also use the speed and distance and time functions on Tom Tom.

h) Reliability both hardware software and mapping

Can anyone give me their views and recommendations, am I expecting too much for the price I would like to pay. Tom Tom , Garmin or something else please Question

Thanks for your help

I made the change from TT Navigator to and All-in-one system at the beginning of this year.

Despite being a TTNav user from firts release - I went for a GARMIN nuvi. I opted for the 660 with European mapping. It's outside your budget though

Yes the interface is totally different and can be confusing at first - but I really like the nuvi - so does the wife - I bought her a 310 (UK) - which was well inside your budget (and still is - £164.99) this give hands-free BT phone connectivity.

A quick look at Amazon reveals a number of units from TT and GARMIN inside your budget. Best advice would be to pop to PC World or Halfords to have a play with some then check the on-line prices.

Amazon have TomTom One V3 (no BT connectivity, European mapping for a very reasonable £143.70,. Also have a GARMIN nuvi 250 (also no BT, European mapping) for £142.75.

GARMIN are supposed to be bringing out a new version of the maps - you may be entitled to a free upgrade if you buy now - but no guarantees!

GARMIN use NAVTEQ mapping - which tends to be slightly better IMHO - fixed some mapping issues I had with TTNav 6 and Teleatlas mapping.

But best adviced is to go a see them and check they do what you want from a sat nav system.
