I was reading some post about the short battery life some people were experiencing with the 720s but could not track these back down.

Any way last night a gave my unit a charge (over night) as I would be driving around the county of Norfolk today (Sunday). I decided that I would run the unit on its internal battery only. I had the FM transmitter on playing MP3; it lasted a little less than an hour. Will try again tomorrow purely using it as sat nav and not MP3 and see what that gives me.

I don’t really want to send it back as I haven’t had any other real problems with the unit and afraid I may get a duffer back.

So people what are you getting from your batteries?

Just over 4 hours, but the unit has been cycled 6 times now.
First run only lasted 45 minutes, second was 1hour 30, third 2hous 40 etc.
As with most it takes a few charges and discharges to build up to full capacity.

The x20 series uses a lithium-polymer battery.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-polymer and http://www.mpoweruk.com/lithiumS.htm for more info.

The info in the links from Oldboy's post states that these batteries do not like trickle charging. Isn't that what it gets from the USB connection?
It also states that they do not like to be discharged below 2 volts. Won't that happen if it is just left switched on or is there some protection against that? It was interesting that it said these batteries prefer, and live longer, with lots of small charges rather than long ones.

Tested my unit the past few days from full charge and only getting around an hours battery life from it.

Have emailed Dixons so now waiting for a reply. I may ask for a full refund and then buy from local store, as it does appear there are so many bad units out there. It would then be far easier to return if need be.

I contacted Dixons and after managing to talk with someone who had a pulse I was told that I could return it for a new unit. I told the guy I would rather have my money back and buy locally as it would be easier to return if necessary, I told him that as there do appeared to be a lot of faulty units about I did not want the hassle of returns. He then told me I could return it to a store. I thought that’s perfect so tried to contact local store ch I have now been informed are all Currys stores now to be told no you can’t do that. So contacted Dixons complained about being run around and given false information. So will return and buy locally

1hr 45 minutes with Bluetooth on, FM Off.

Is it worth taking it back?

Could end up with an even worse one with handsfree buzzing again.

At least it works with external power. Rolling Eyes

I have decided to send mine back unless something miraculous happens over night; I was getting around an hour. Last night 1h 40m. Have charged it over night as some people have suggested and will try this later and again tomorrow and if I don’t get anything like 4 hours then it can go back as expecting DHL returns labels from Dixons tomorrow.

Tom Tom states that battery should last for up to 5 hours I’m only asking for 4 hours and to achieve this should only take 2 hours to charge they say.
