Hello all....

I am new to Pda's & GPS and need some basic help please...

I have purchased a hp 2210 pda complete with Tomtom 2 and a Holux gm-270 compact flash card..

The system is running fine and is currently using the gps driver v2.06 284/364

I have noticed when I look on the gps screen there is the text for mph kmh & kts but nothing to change them, i.e no icons..

I have read that the best gps driver is 2.07? , is this correct and is it worth me upgrading the pda to this version or am I not going to notice any difference?

If it is worth upgrading can someone please tell me the procedure for doing so, do I have to un install something 1st or just install over the top?

Please be patient as this is all new to me...!! Laughing

many thanks...

Andy

As long as TomTom is functioning correctly I wouldn't bother upgrading the GPS Driver. You don't say what version of TomTom you are currently using (not to be confused with the GPS Driver), the latest is v2.24 and is worth upgrading to.

Upgrading either TomTom or the GPS Driver is a simple process. Download the update, extract the files to a folder and run the setup.exe within. There is no need to remove the previous installation.

Hi ,

I think i understand the problem.

I take it you're on gps status window on the page with a picture of the Earth with the gps conection properties at the top ?

In the middle are selections for changing from km/h etc ?

however you cant see any way of changing them ?

This is Tomtom's fault - do a soft reset and when you go back there will be check boxes next to the headings - every now and then tomtom will make everyone of your checkboxes disapear in all software on your ipaq.

So far as I'm aware, it's not TomTom - disappearing checkboxes appears to be a Pocket PC 2003 bug. I've seen it happen in other applications, but not in anything written by TomTom and indeed I'm sure it's happened on my setup when I haven't used any TomTom software since my last soft reset.

I suspect there's a resource leak somewhere in the OS. The fix is, unsurprisingly, a soft reset.

I've been watching this problem for a while now, and have never experienced it myself until yesterday when all check boxes weren't being displayed and I couldn't check them in any application, initiating a soft reset fixed the problem, but prior to seeing the problem I had soft reset the iPAQ because it had hung, so I was a bit miffed to know what was causing the problem, it appeared that when I soft reset the iPAQ the first time, something didn't load properly into RAM.
