No GPS fix on ICN 550...help!!!

Just purchased a second hand ICN550 but cannot get a gps fix at all.all i get are several red bars on the gps status even though i've had it going in the garden for a couple of hours..i've tried the reset button but it still won't find the signal.i have had a 330 and a 510 before with no problems.
i didn't get a smartst disc with it so can't update the software
