Looking for new gps for off road m/bike with os style maps

Im looking for a gps (any make) for the trials bike to be able to have maps loaded to at least 50,000 OS for looking for byways etc in southern UK. Rather it be colour and memory card usable.
Any ideas?

Ben, why not think about a PDA loaded with Memory Map (OS maps at either 1:50K or 1:25K scale), put the PDA in an OtterBox to keep it safe and water proof, this can attach to the bike via a RAM mount, there are a few links to keep you busy looking at possibilities - Mike

I have a pda with the gps and maps but dont think it will cope with the rigors of off roading, and battery life wont last.
I have looked at Garmins and Magellans but their maps dont look that detailed for what I want, basically I want a gps with a either 1:50K or 1:25K OS style detail of map.

The SATMAP active 10 device does look interesting, I did try registering but looks like their site is now working.

They are only a few miles from me anyway.

Will have to try again later.

I'll tell you what - try keeping your M/C off these 'Green Roads'. The number of times I've had a day ruined by some inconsiderate 'nob' roaring through the countryside exercising his/her 'right' is beyond count....
The heaviest traffic they were designed for was a horse, not some supercharged high Horse Power monster. These awful 'scrambler' motorcycles do nothing but chew up the surface, leaving it rutted and muddy for walkers to try and get round.

Depends what you are after. I use a PDA/GPS while mountain biking, but have it turned off most of the time, only pull it out when stopped and want to know where I am.
I also have used a Bluetooth GPS/datalogger, so I get the trails maps of where I have been etc, with my short battery life PDA tucked away nice and safe till I need it. By the time you have forked out for a PDA, Otter box and MMap, the PDA solution gets expensive, but you can use at for other stuff.

If you want access to it all the time you are riding, then a PDA won't cut it, they are just too fragile and too short battery life. You would need a dedicated rugged device - check out garmin Cx60 series, or enven mor reliable, a paper map.

On advatage of having the device on you (in a pocket or backpack), rather than the bike, is the human body makes a great shockabsorber, so it gets a "soft" ride compared to fueltank/handle bar mounted devices, just don't crash out and land on it Supreme Angel

If all you want to to see where you went, when you get home, a Datalogger GPS is the way to go. Whatever solutuoon you choose, make sure you can load tracks into Memory Map once you get home.

Unfortunately the PDA thing wont be any good due to battery life. I have memory map on it and yes it would be fine but not sure about the vibrations though.

I got an email back from SatMap and does look good so will wait and see for that one.

And just a reply to 7andy, we are fully legal in what we do and are considerate to anyone we come across and also for horses.

As per usual, the Ramblers Association militants always tar with the same brush.

We do not roar through the countryside like some "nob" as you say and I wont reply in like as its not worth it.

And if you must know, its the 4X4s that rut the lanes, not the bikes. Go done one that 4x4s cant get down due to width, and you wont see ruts.

Thats the lot I will say one this matter.
