Hi all,
I am about to buy a PDA+GPS receiver to be used in boat and car together with Ozi Explorer CE software.
I have been looking at many different packages, but can someone recommend a good combination of Ipaq PDA and some Navman 3300 Jacket type of GPS receiver. So basically, it should be an Ipaq but model and GPS is still open.
I havn't seen anyone using new Bluetooth GPS receivers (example Navman 4400) with Ipaq, so any comments from users of BT GPS's would be a great help.

If you can guarantee good sky view for the jacket both in car and in the boat then you can look at the Navman jackets. The antenna type (cylindrical ar planar) also influences the angle under which you have to mount the iPAQ. PLus, these jackets come without battery, so they rely on the iPAQ - which should be connected to power for that, otherwise it will drain relatively quickly.
BT receivers have the advantage of independent placement from the PDA, and they come with their own battery. Especially on the boat this may be an advantage.
Make sure you think about a water tight casing for both th iPAQ and the receiver. (I have seen someone on a german outdoor site propose the use of a condom - for the PDA, I might add. Seems to work extremely well. _________________ Lutz

Yes, my boat (main use) has no roof above the cockpit, so it will be clear. Car is not a convertible, so hopefully the windshield will do... :-)

But then again, if it runs on battery power, it is "always" empty... Do you have any experiences how long does a BT receiver work with one set of batteries?

I think i will manage with something traditional.. :-) There is quite good clear and flexible casings for sale for cameras and PDA's just for this purpose...
If someone has any comments for any model Bluetooth GPS receivers or Navman 3300 Terrain jacket GPS for Ipaq PDA's, they are most welcome.
