Can anyone describe the best way of regionalising POI's, for example if I am going on a trip from Essex to Norfolk via Suffolk, how could I load only POI's for those 3 counties?

Unless your device is very tight on memory space, there's no need to limit the POIs to a region - the device should automatically display the POIs in distance order from your location (or your destination, or whatever you configure in the search settings) and limiting the POIs by county may result in you missing a POI, which is close, but just over a county boundary.

Unless I'm missing something...

I was under the impression that the more POI's you had the slower the GPS operated, particularly in starting up.

If I am doing a journey between Essex and Norfolk, there is not a lot of point in having Cornwall POI's, I typically use my i3 for a few specific journeys for which I could load a set of POI's

Never noticed a difference with my i3. 33K POIs vs 0 POIs = same.

If you really feel the need to do this - and I don't believe there is any need - then you could create a spreadsheet of the POIs, sort by Lat and get rid of the ones outside a value you determine and then sort the remaining by long and do the same (thus defining a square area of POIs) which you could load to your system. Surely you don't intend doing this for all the speed cameras as well?

However - as stressed before - there is no need to do this. If you are using an all-in-one PND device (e.g. TomTom One / Garmin 310) then the extra few seconds (that 's what it is) when powering on is hardly a sacrifice - it will take longer for the device to get a sat lock under most conditions. In operation it won't be a problem.

For PDA based solutions then an older, slower PDA may struggle with very large amounts of POIs
