Hi,

I'm trying to conduct a PhD on animal behaviour using GPS. I'm having little success tracking down a supplier who does not deal in lots of 1,000 for an antenna that weights less than 3 grams. We are in the prototype phase at the movement so we can't afford and don't want to get 100 units that we may not need.

Units I'm looking specifically are made by INPAQ: http://www.inpaq.com.tw/cht/downloadfiles/GPS_Chip_Oct2006_v.pdf
These are lighter than:
http://www.inpaq.com.tw/downloadfiles/GPS_Patch_Oct2006.pdf
which we have previously used for a larger model. To date no one has been able to tell me why everyone just does not use the smallest one if they can all receive and process the same signal. I don’t have my heart set on these models so if you know of an alternative don't all use the smallest one.

Anyway if any of you tech Ninjas could help me out by explaining the opportunity cost of the smaller units or where I could get small volumes (10 or so) I would be very grateful.

What size animals are you wanting to track? There's a number of dog/cat collars available but if you're tracking drosophila then they may be a bit large...

Sorry I can't be any more help!
