Nuvi 310 can't select city or postcode, then crashes!

My Nuvi 310 was perfect until I updated via the web and using Ctiy Navigator V9 upload. Most of these problems were because I had been given the wrong box when I bought the unit and so my unlock codes were not for my product.
Garmin UK were very helpful and sorted it out.
But now when I try to use
Where to
followed by
Address then
Spell City/Postal Code
the alphabet screen flashes up, and then it jumps straight to the
Spell City Or Postal Code screen,
The only option is
Search All Cities
I cannot enter a city or postal code.
If I select the
Search All Cities option it jumps straight to
Enter House Number if I enter any number and press done the unit crashes to a black screen and I have to turn it back on.
I would welcome any advice.

I would take a backup of the Nuvi, and then delete the .unl code and get MapSource to create it on the device again. Having said that, what does Settings / Map / Map Info say? I wonder if in the process of having problems you either have no maps, the wrong maps, the wrong unlock code for the maps (whether they are correct or not) or something else wrong.

As such, before you do anything, I think we would need a lot more information.

Can you provide the list of files, and their sizes and date and time from the \Garmin directory on the Nuvi?
