Hi all!

I'm a GPS newbie, having just bought my first unit this past weekend. After reading some reviews on this site and others, I picked up a Globalsat BT-359W.

I'm using it with a QTEK 9100, mostly for Navsat. I noticed two things that left me puzzled and I can't find out if this is normal operation or if my GPS receiver is not working correctly:

First, when the receiver is standing still, it never gets an accurate fix on the position. The 3rd rightmost digit is constantly changing. This makes the position jump around on what I would say is a 15m radius. This is in an open field picking up 5 to 8 satellites. Sometimes it gets better and changes less frequently, some other times not.

Second, when I'm driving, if I uncheck the "Keep position on the road" my course is plotted offroad. It's parallel to my direction, but with a 5-10m offset. I tested this with Miomap and with Google Map Mobile.

My big question is: is this behaviour OK or should I return this receiver ?

Thank you all in advance!

Welcome to the forums. a 10 to 15 metre accuracy is normal for generic GPS. No need to return the receiver.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that. I just couldn't find a straight answer anywhere.
