Thank you in advance. I have a Garmin i3,
software version 3.30
maps from city navigator NT Europe v9
poi from Garmin POI's
and speed camera's from this website
I updated everything last week just before a trip to Devon from Hull
as soon as I set off I noticed the mapping was off, I wasnt driving on the road but to a side of it, and also there is no detail in the maps all my side roads have gone.(map detail set to highest)
luckily I had put in my destination before all went wrong, as now when I try to enter an address the unit gives me the option to select state? with no matches.
so any ideas what i can do to cure these problems?
I notice in other forums people advise to stick to version 2.70 etc but where could I get this from as the garmin website only offers 3.30?
I have tried to re-install v3.30, and the maps but now I'm STUCK.
Thanks again. Dave

Try HERE for earlier versions of the i3 firmware.

Glad it fixed it - good old 2.7.

The only thing I would like from later versions of the firmware is not having to put a space in the postcode, but it's worth putting up with that to have reliable performance.

Just out of interest, thebear555, do you have one of the original i3s with mapping, POIs etc on a card, or a later model with onboard mapping? V3.3 seems to work OK on newer units, while the older ones perform better on 2.7.

Thanks, Dave, that's interesting. It seems that most people with an older unit have problems using the later firmware.

I believe Garmin recommend the maximum size card is 1GB, which will take all of Western and most of Eastern Europe. My 512MB card takes most of Western Europe, which is more than I'm ever likely to need!

Oddly i have noticed the driving on a parallel road issue with v3.30 (as with v2.90), but only once, now it all seems to work as well as v3.20.

No problems with the address selection though.

I don't think it's a Garmin issue. Once on a journey using TomTom on a PDA, I was placed about 200 yards away from my true position, following a parallel path to the actual one. I switched to CoPilot and exactly the same happened. This persisted for about 40 miles until I got home.
I later read that on that evening there had been a very high sporadic E event (disturbance of the ionisation level in one of the ionospheric layers) and concluded that it had in some way interfered with the ephemeris data being downloaded from the satellites

It could have been that this event had the effect of delaying the signal very slightly - which would translate to a position error. Interference with (as in altering) any downloaded data should result in it being rejected by the unit as checksums would probably not be correct.

Yes, I speculated that the incoming beam could have been very slightly refracted, so that the data did not appear to be corrupted, but the timing was a microsecond or so in error.
The GPS was fine the following day

Strange I spotted this topic today... Something very similar happening today on way home (17:50 - 18:15). I was getting a fix on my nuvi 660 some 50 metres south of where I should have been. Wouldn't lock onto the road unless I was travelling south.

I switched it off and on twice - same problem. Getting full strength sat levels with 9-10 sats locked.

Will have to check if there was any atmospheric issues (aurora etc).
