Reading past posts people mention about using the data cable to reset the baud rate etc. Is this cable the same one that is used connect to the mains etc? It has a USB plug on one end whilst the other plugs into the data port on the GR230. If I connect to my PC or laptop using this cable I get a message to the effect of unreconised device on USB port. I've also tried updating the driver to no effect.

No, it's a difference cable that can be purchased from Holux for the tidy sum of £24.99.
