Toshiba E570 - lock up & security of data

My E570 locked up when exiting Tom Tom. Screen light was on - nothing would work.

I left it to drain thinking that I would have to restore the data. I have two questions:

If I had to restore the data does the Tom Tom software think I am downloading on to another pocket pc - I understand there are limitations to this.

Secondly, I was pleased that when I connected the drained pc to the car charger the Tom Tom software was still OK - the software is stored in the main memeory and the maps were on a SD card so I expected the later to be OK. Why did the sotware remain OK?

Doesn't the E570 have a soft reset function (insert stylus into small hole to reset) ?

You hadn't drained the battery completely. You may have drained it to the point that it would not power on, but there is still residual power in the battery. If you had drained it completely, and you then charged it and powered it on, you would have nothing installed (like when you purchased it).
