HI, I have just bought an S90i. As you do, I spent most of the weekend playing with it.

I am having a little trouble with the route preview setting. If I have a GPS fix, it will not allow me to preview any route which does not start at my current location. Even if I select a favourite as a start location, somehow this is always overridden with my current location.

Any ideas on how to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

Men9jag - How are you selecting a favourite as a start location? As far as I know, the only way to select a starting point is to:-
1) find it on the map
2) select it on the map
3) tap the map again to bring up the map menu
4) tap on "Route"
5) tap on "Set as Start"

You then select your destination in the usual way. I don't believe it is possible (I would love to be proved wrong) to select a starting point from the address etc. See page 46 in the user manual for full details of the above.

Hope this helps

Paul

You have to do it quickly, I think you have about 10 seconds before the start location that you've set manually expires and gets overridden by current GPS fix.

I emailed Navman and they said that it is possible to select a start point which is not your current position, provided you do not have a current GPS fix (i.e. the device does not know your current location). Once the device picks up your gps point, then whatever start point you select will be overridden by your current location. Basically page 46 of the manual (which says "If you have a GPS fix, you do not need to select a departure poin UNLESS you want to demonstrated route to start elsewhere") isnt entirely truthful.

So if you are inside a building and there is no gps coverage, you can select any start point you want. If you are in your car this can be a bit more difficult as I find the Navman picks up the gps signal faster than i can select and new start and end point.

You can select a start point from an address (provided you dont have a gps fix). Look up the where you want to start (either through address or post code). Then select it. You then have a small cut out of the map of the address you want to go with the the full address beneath it. On the bottom right corner you should have the white arrow you usually clcik for the navman to calculate your route. If you click on the map (top left corner), the map should now enlarge to cover the whole screen. If you now click chevron button beneath the magnifying glass, the map should become "active". You can now touch the map and select route and then start point.

hope this is of use.

This problem has only existed since advent of SP1, as I used this route demonstration many, many times before SP1 update. I agree, it is now a pain. It would be nice if, like my old PiN300, you could enable/disable GPS signal.
I emailed support a week ago, re this problem and am still awaiting their reply. (Typical of Support)

I've had the same issues as others when trying to "Set as Start Location", on my N60i - when the Navman has a GPS fix, the start location I set is ignored. On the N60i, my workaround is to press the compass icon in the lower right to switch it to the GPS indicator, press and hold that icon to bring up the individual GPS satellite strength barchart, then click "Reset GPS". This sets the Navman off renewing its GPS fix, and in the meantime I can go back to the map screens, select a location and set it to start location and route it from there. It gives me a minute or so to point and click, anyway.
Regards,

If you want to preview from A to B and your current location is C,

set up a route to cover C - A - B

Then you can preview A to B (though after having preview C to A first)
