You only get bleeps (or voice warnings as you pass each camera.
The POI systems only know about "points in space" not areas or zones, unfortunately.

So the first beep you get will be the beginning of the SPECS range. Thanks

No, it warns you of where the camera is, so it depends on what distance settings you used to inform you of an approaching camera.

It depends on the software.

Most programs just give a standard warning that you are about to pass a camera.

I think there are programs like POI Warner or CheckPOInt (or something) that will start measuring your speed when you pass the first camera and warn you if your AVERAGE speed exceeds the limit while you are betwen the two cameras. Not sure how well it works though...

The whole section is the SPECS zone. The 1st camera logs u on to the SPECS system. The very last camera logs u off the SPECs system.

You speed is tracked by the SPECs cameras between the start and end points. An average is then worked out.

I don't know if anyone knows. But 1 SPECs camera is only legally allowed to scan 1 lane.

What this means is that if a 3 lane motorway only has 1 SPECs camera on it for the whole section. You enter the zone in the nearside lane (slow) and you leave the zone in the outside lane (fast), then the SPECs system can't detect you.

To scan all 3 lanes, there has to be 3 SPECs cameras next to each other.

Same as if you only see 2 SPECs cameras, this means that only 2 lanes are being scanned.

I think the system will still detect you - it's simply that the approval for use as a speed camera system only tested you entering and leaving the SPECS zone on a single camera system - you may well still get prosecuted, and you would have to argue why the evidence would be inadmissible.

Of course, you can't tell which 2 lanes are covered...

With the ogg files I have installed I get the following warning:

"Warning average speed zone. Speed limit 50 (or whatever) miles per hour."

This is repeated for the duration of being in the area, and is much better than the abrupt:

"Specs" warnining that comes I had with the PGPS data.chk file

Update as I cant edit:

The ogg files I use can be found here:

The ogg files are at the bottom of the page. I think I use the Liz Whittaker files, but may be the Vickie Archer files

How do you get the ogg file to repeat throughout the zone?
It only gets triggered when you pass a POI point (i.e. a camera position)

Don't ask me. I installed the ogg files from Rays TomTom site, and that the way it works now. The wording for the other files is slightly different too, ie:

Warning gatso ahead. Speed limit 50 miles per hour.

Better than 'Gatso 50' don't you think?

However as a speculative answer to your question: I suspect that the phrase is triggered according to the warning distance that has been setup for Specs cameras, and then triggered everytime that the warning distance to the next camera is reached. There is no final warning, but it is obvious when the restricted area is left anyway.

Could be something to do with the spacing between the specs cameras, and how you set up the warnings - it could sound like 'continual' warnings.
