|
|
I would be grateful to know whether the speed camera voice warnings available free at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-poi-alerts.php (latest version for 6.520 to my knowledge) will work with the new Tom Tom software update 6.560. The customised voice alternatives were I think last updated in Feb 2005 for 6.520?
Each time I update the Tom Tom main software, it seems that I have to re set up the voice warnings by downloading and reinserting a new Data Check file. If not, then the speed camera icon appears, but the warning is something unsuitable like a cow! I prefer the customised voice alternatives by Lutz, Richard and Mike , but it seems tedious to reset each warning for each camera type and speed zone. Distance seems to stay, but the warning sound does not? Am I missing an easier way of doing this?
Thanks for any assistance.
Regards

Why not use the ogg method. That way you won't have to change anything at each upgrade.;)
HERE and #5 on the FAQ page. _________________ Richard

Thanks,
The OGG method does not sound simpler - and it seems you still have to reset all the distances? You also have download voices at cost? I cannot see the advantage - handling the data check files is not so bad and seems simpler? The problem seems to be that there are no new poi warning datacheck files for the latest TT operating system version 6.560. Is this right?
Thanks again

There is no data.chk file for 6.560
As to the ogg warnings, they only have to be set up once. You never need to touch them again.
There is no cost involved for the warning voices.
Have a look at the Post of Andy_P in This Thread. He has done a couple of sets that are good.;) _________________ Richard

Thanks Richard,
For information, I can confirm that the datacheck file downloadable for 6.520 works fine for 6.560 - all warnings work as they did,
I will transfer to the OGG method with the next TT operating system upgrade, but having got it working using the data check file, I might as well stick with this until the next time!
Thanks
Regards

Yes, everyone who's read the HELP FILE
Basically you need to get a set of phrases, one for each camera type.
You can rename other files, make your own, or use one of a few sets that people have already compiled.
All of those files have to have exactly the same names as all the speed-zoned camera datafiles, and to be put into the same folder (i.e. your map folder).
Here are two sets you could try using the same messages as the original PGPSW data.chk versions. Some people wanted them because thay are more concise than Liz etc.
With siren
Without siren
(Right click and "save as..")
And here is
Mullet's versions of Ray Flanagan's "Liz" (sixth post down - left click to go to the download sites). |

I found using the ogg files simplicity itself, they are superb.
Don't need to glance to the unit to know what the speed limit is. _________________ Satnav:

Shame the specs warning don't give the applicable speed. _________________ Henry |

i was missing out the underscore on the cloned ogg file, got it to work now though, recorded my own warnings in wave and converted to ogg, adds a bit of humour. |

henryg... are you saying there is a problem with the packages I linked to above?
They seem to download OK for me, but if there is anything wrong, please give details and I will correct them. |

Andy, no problem, it was just that in the one I looked at the Specs warnings did not announce the speed limit, but I have now found other that do. Also with and without preceeding siren, low and normal volumes :D _________________ Henry |

Now found it, it's the file PGPSW_Alerts_Clean.zip referenced as 'without siren' earlier in this thread. _________________ Henry |
