TomTom home map updates

Ok so maybe this is a stupid question.

I go to TomTom home and see maps for purchase, it shows Australia .. BUT it does not show the map release dates or if it is a more current map than the one I currently have.

So my question is how do I know whether the map on TomTom's system for sale is an updated version that I may want to buy ?

This has been a bone of contention with all maps relating to the units we use and has been covered in many previous post's.
As for the Australian maps, and i speak as an Australian, Whilst being acceptable they are still a few roo's short in the top paddock when it come's to being spot on. The latest version which i understand is the only version has data which is NINE years out of date. I am talking about Melbourne here, my hometown, whilst Melbourne is an incredibly easy city to navigate around it does help the uninitiated when they can look at their satnav and have some confidence in it, alas this does not seem to be the case especially around Tullamarine ( Melbourne Airport) which would more than likely be the first experience for most people.
