910 Hard Drive

Hopefully my last question before I spend some hard earned - What is the hard drive in the 910? Is it something like a large CF or is it a "spinning" type. Just wondering what could go wrong with the hard drive.

its just the same as you have in your p.c, good when they work, but if it packs up you will lose all the maps and will have to be sent away to be repaired. mine was fine but i hope it packs up soon as it was nicked last week Sad

. ive now replaced it with the tomtom 1 v2 europe and the maps are better on this than on my 910. the 910 will be replaced later this year, hence the fast falling prices on the go models.

the hands free calling is crap, but if you want a 910 then get one, you wont beat it for the money £300 or less if you shop around.

Have a read through the article and thread Lutz wrote a while back the hard drive got a few mentions, it can be found HERE its also fair to add that a car suffers from extreme levels of heat, cold, damp and vibration - not really a good scenario for computer hardware longevity - that said my 910 is still going strong, just make sure you back the unit up before use just in case - Mike

Thanks for the replies, just need to make my mind up 710 or 910. Must admit there are some good deals on both but found a 710 for £245 with P&P.

ive got a sony ericsson p990i linked to my tt910 and it far surpasses my expectations..... receiving and making calls by ext. mic are excellent and also the added fact that sms messages are 'read' to you is the final plus.

Hi! Have anyone tryed to replace it with a larger drive? I think there are 2.5" drives up to a 100Gb's today. That would fit a whole lot of mp3's =)

There is little point in trying this to fit more mp3's on the device, there was a thread last June see HERE that found a limit to the number of actual mp3 tracks the device can handle, I tried it out putting over 14GB of music on the unit and not all the tracks were available to play (you can tell how many tracks the unit thinks are loaded when it first re-boots after disconnection from the PC) - Mike
