Hi, I have just bought a Garman 660 and Ihave been told that the law with regard to using the FM frequency has just been changed. I know this facility is not available in the UK, does anyone know if there is any way round this so that I can route everthing through my car stereo. Is it likely that Garmin will release the software or does it involve hardware??

Cheers

Hi Terence

I spoke to Garmin about this very subject before Christmas & was told that the European Version of 660 doesn't have the FM Unit inside, so really your only option would be to use the Phone output on the side of the Unit.

A couple of possibilities I'd say would be if you've got an Aux Socket on your Car Stereo and connect it via that, otherwise if you have a Vehicle that has a Tape Player Header Unit, then buy one of the Phone to Tape Input Converters.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Me again

Just a thought, I know you can buy those FM Transmitters for iPods, wonder if you can buy them for standard MP3 Players, if so, then you'd be able to use that on the 660.

Cheers

Thanks very much, I'll give it a try. Shame they didn't put the full spec in, especially knowing that the law was changing in this country.

Regards

Hi,

I know exactly what youy mean, the reason that I got back from Garmin was that yes the law is being changed in the UK, but there are still some European Countries that it's illegal to use a FM Transmitter in, but he did say that they won't be modifying the European Version of the 660, but future Devices may have the FM Transmitter built in, not that that's much use to us!!!

Anyway, glad to help and happy Nav'ing

Cheers
