Picked up one of these today but lost as to what to do..

First thing I did was plug it in turn it on and bung it on the window sill, orange light for charge, red light for GPS and then zip..

I can establish a bluetooth connection with it but which model to I pick under GPS in settings? Do I need to connect to it for to start looking for it's position, been a good 30mins and still no green light on GPS, Do I have to tell TomTom2 what GPS I have or does it take it from settings, the panflet with it says set it at 38400 but again, where? Theres a Bluetoth profile thing but the only thing with baud rates talks about hardware under dial up networking.

Confused, puzzled, help!

First of all you need to go into BT Manager and create a bond. Once you have a bond, in TTN2 select the driver that says Emtac Wireless GPS and Bluetooth Serial Port COM8:

That's it. This will then open up the Bluetooth Browser (BT Manager) and ask you to select the ClipOn BT GPS you have bonded, tap this and you will be all ready and running. The Blue light on the Clip-On should then start blinking/flashing.

Ok done what you said but still no joy..

The Bluetooth light flashes away like a goodun, pulse on the iPaq, constant fast flash on GPS unit. Still no green light on the GPS unit.

GPS status in tomtom is blank, no details, nothing and it says 'GPS position unreliable' at bottom of normal screen. :x :x

Units now sat on my patio in the garden, STILL no green light, duff unit? can it be reset? Does it need a decent connection from the iPaq to make it start looking?

Start Tomtom asks for Bluetooth device, pick it, all starts flashing blue, nothing in GPS...?

Hmm switched it to XT mode and it seems to be talking, I thought ST mode was for the car better etc? Is it that crap it can't pick up a signal in the garden with no coverage and direct access to a clear sky?

Communication 'seems' to be working now, turned it off, switched it back to ST mode, at most in the GPS status window I get 2 grey bars of 12 which I assume is satellites, correct?

That could be a combination of a bad fix (using a relatively low number of satellites) and TomTom's "snap to road" behaviour.

If you put the setup in the car and start moving, I wouldn't be surprised if the position corrects itself. It seems that TomTom Navigator uses the direction of travel to help it snap your position to the correct road.

I'm sometimes shown on the next road whilst stationary on my drive with my setup (which uses a Haicom HI-303MMF GPS with TomTom Navigator 2 2.24 - the Haicom uses the same GPS chipset as your Clip On when in ST mode). As soon as I start moving, it sorts itself out.

The Fortuna Clip-On does seem to have a fault where sometimes no data is being received, but powering off, switching to XTrac, powering on, obtaining a fix, powering off, switching back to ST mode and powering on again can resolve this. Not sure why, it's as though the ST/XT switch gets caught part way and doesn't receive any data correctly.

Yeah it did seem to get 'stuck' for quite a while doing nothing, once passed this things picked up quite well, went for a test drive and indeed once on the move it snapped to a road better.

Only problem I had was with TomTom, on a single lane mini roundabout it told me to keep left then turn right and take the 3rd exit, well the 3rd exit would of been back where I came from Sad

Question though, the Fortuna box came with a car charger and the pin matches the iPaq converter, can I use it safely to run the iPaq off the car?

I wonder if you misinterpreted the voice commands. TomTom Navigator 2 usually doesn't give exit numbers for mini-roundabouts, only full roundabouts. It usually tells you to turn in a particular direction at a mini-roundabout.

It can be helpful to glance at the on screen map when you're approaching a roundabout of any sort, so that you're clear what you're being asked to do. It's also worth some experimentation in demonstration mode (particularly if you choose familiar routes), so you can watch and listen to what goes on.

Of course, there's always mistakes in the data, too - things change all the time, and sometimes mistakes are made. At least once I've been given the wrong numbered exit from a roundabout because an exit has been added for a new housing estate.

There again, in the part of Bedfordshire where I live, there are several examples where the signs you pass on the approach to certain roundabouts along the same road differ in the number of minor exits shown (entrances to farmer's fields can be on one sign and not the other - that sort of thing). A glance at the on screen map can help confirm where the system wants you to go.

I ran through it again on demo mode she says and I quote "Go right on the roundabout, 3rd exit" and like I say theres only 3 exits it total and has been for a millenium so it's lucky I knew where I was going anyway :D

Something to bare in mind when I'm in unknown teritory though.

It sounds like a mistake in the data, then. You can add it to the list of errors in the map data for Navigator 2 by visiting this thread.
