The speed I'm travelling shown on my Sat Nav (TomTom GO 500) is slower than my speedo. Can anyone tell me which is more accurate please?

Sat Nav - all speedo deliberately read higher than your actual speed to avoid problems with speed limits and the law. If they tried to be accurate you might be able to sue the manufacturer because their error allowed you to break the speed limit. |

Sat-Nav
Three different GPS units show my car [with the speedo reading of 80mph] at a speed of 72mph. |

EU regulations mean that all cars sold in Europe must have speedos that read between 0 and 10% fast. The GPS speed is accurate to better than 1 mph, but only if you are travelling at a steady speed, on level ground and in a straight line.
My own car (a VW) reads 73 mph when the GPS indicates 70. In my experience, most Fords are close to 10% fast. (Your car speedo will vary a little according to the tread depth of your tyres.)
Strumble's 80 mph speedo reading with a GPS speed of 72 seems just outside the permitted limits - but only by the thickness of the needle!
