I swopped my 510 in for a 910 yesterday and backed it up this morning. After that I installed the latest software update and know the tomtom will not compunicate with the computer. THe bit when you put the dock on and it says 'Connect to Computer' does not happen. Because it's a 910 I don't know what to do because without the connection I can't do anything I've allready tried the rest hole to no avail.

The reset usually clears this fault, you have been using the correct hole, the one under the unit adjacent to the main electrical connector. If so does the unit does actually perform a reset (next power on the screen is black with the red hands displayed, short drumroll played).
Next I would try a re-boot of the PC - Mike

Yes correct hole used and yes the hands come up with the drumrole. Bit of a glitch this one with the 910 as you have no access to the software without the connection !

In two days you've tried to sell your 500, only to have the touchscreen fail the day before someone was coming to collect it; you've bought a 510 and decided to wipe a load of stuff off the card; and you've tried to update a friend's Go Classic with the original SD card and without first doing a backup!

Maybe you need a quiet weekend! Laughing

Have you tried re-booting the PC? - if so try moving the USB lead to a different outlet on the PC.
Still no luck try manualy starting the TomTom Home application on the PC before docking the device, not much more to sugest on this though to be honest - Mike

I'ver had anough the ammount of greif i'm having with tomtom, I bought the top of the range device but know I can't even get access to it. If I take it back and get another one what's to stop that one doing the same thing when I upgrade the software. I'll get on to TomTom tomorrow but doubt they can help it will end up being another trip to PC World.

Have you got the latest TomTom Home application on the PC? start TomTom Home then click File/ Preferences - now click the "Check for update" button - does this do anything? - Mike

Just took mt 910 back and got another one, done the update and fingers crossed all seems ok. Is there any way of seeing what map versions you have from a backup without insalling it to the tomtom. I.E had a backup of the older 910 and wanted to see if there was a difference in versions between the new one. Have noticed the one I gave back had a newer birthday.

Thanks for everyones help, after i've finished backing it up which takes ages about 45 minutes I will install the pocketgps speed cams and all should be well.

OH noticed that the tomtom 910 that I gave back had Gold printing on the Product Key and the one I got today has Silver.

Now you have the back-up using Home I would seriously consider a second back-up using Windows Explorer - If not the whole device at least copy the LOQUENDO folder this way, or you might struggle getting the TTS part working when you restore the back-up - Mike

Done backup using Explorer as read about the speach problems if I use home, bit silly I think use there own software and get problems. Was searesly condidering getting a garmin 360 instaed of the tomtom but the user interface does not seem as good. But I hear the Maps are better and there Customer Service is Supposed to be A1.

Is there any way you can change that arror on TomTom to another shape like the car Garmin Use. ?

Any Idea about my question regarding checking Map version without insatlling on the TomTom. I was sure my tomtom I gave back had a slightly newer map version but I could have been amagining things.
