Anyone paid for the upgrade as annouced in a TT e-mail this am.
I've paid and the download fails after 75mins, yes I'm on Broadband as well, at 89% with 7.5mins to go.

An error occurred downloading this file "An error occurred (read error)".

Stayed up late and managed to complete the download in an hour, the programme then continued and installed the map update onto my SD card.
Success on the 4th or was it 5th attempt.

At the first attempt (thank goodness, I don't know what I'd have done if it failed!!) Broadband up to 8Mb, 20 minutes.

Do not think you would have to worry if you had failed, as in my case multiple attemps were made.
Did you get it in 20mins because of your speed? My computer reports I'm 576Kbps.
Just thought of those on dial up guess they might take a whole day!

Any computer expert explain simply why it takes so long?

I have BT Broadband "Up to 8Mb" which two minutes ago this site test

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

gave a result of download speed 6178.2. It does vary and I did my map download at night, but can't remember when. It never crossed my mind to worry about failure - ignorance is bliss - and if it had failed I'd have started to weep and pull my hair out and wouldn't have know what to do.

Sorry, should have added ... My understanding of this subject is it's like pouring water down a pipe - dialup is a thin pipe, broadband is "broad". The bigger the pipe the less time it takes to pour. Explains why I can swig a pint faster than my grandson. Guinness

If the barrel at the far end has a single tap, but has to feed lots of pipes out of it, you can get the situation where it doesn't matter how fat the pipe is, you still only get a trickle out of each.

Ah, now that explains why I suffer from time to time. I had forgotten about the barrel bunghole bit (I'm really just a pints expert where grandchildren are concerned - the big boys sneer and kick sand in my face Wink )
