|
|
In the past I have been stung badly by TomTom bringing out much better new versions of their products - as soon as I buy the current one. I'm not keen to let this happen again, so can I ask when people believe the 510, 710, and 910 range of products are likely to get refreshed?
This close to Christmas you might imagine you'd be safe to buy the current products now, but this is not my experience!
There are other factors that lead me to believe that a range refresh is likely, such as the just released RDS-TMC traffic accessory. This device is small enough to easily be incorporated into future versions of TomTom devices, admittedly perhaps requiring an antennae. This would require very little redesign on TomTom's part, meaning it is lilkely they will do it in my opinion!
Then there's new Car Connect device, the functionality of which could again easily be incorporated into future (high end?) TomTom's.
I have always found the contributors on this forum to be very helpful, I would appreciate any views; please try to suggest time frames eg before christmas, Q1CY2007, by next summer etc.
Thanks! |

x10 prices are now being more aggressively discounted by Dixons, Tesco etc.
Usually a sign of end-of-line ... |

just been thinking there is an alternative strategy, get one of the new v2 TomTom One's while I wait for the latest greatest RDS-TMC enabled 720/800 to hit the streets.
when the x10 series were announced formally, how long had anyone known about this before it happened publicly? this will add a few months delay, adding weight to the get one now argument... |

Going by past experiences the new models usually get muted by third parties who attend the cebit conference which is around about March time. After all the brown noseing and prawn sarnies have worn off the products usually start to filter through around June time. |

Another indicator is that Makro are now stocking the x10 models - they are renowned for selling end of line stock from manufacturers (they can get it cheap and discount it well)

Unit RRPs: price ex VAT:
510: 299.99 255.31
710: 349.99 297.86
910: 399.99 340.42
Makro's price is 20 quid lower than the current RRP price, definitely a saving |
