I've seen a number of people post that they asked for a copy of Mapsource to go with their Nuvi and Garmin sent it to them to free. THis has allowed them to load third party maps, add waypoints and plan routes on their pcs.

When I phoned Garmin about this I was told the only option is to buy Trip and Waypoint manager and that they dont give out DVDs of mapsource for free. If I wanted a copy, I would have to buy a full version then pay garmin to reinstall my Nuvi with the maps with the same key as the dvd I had purchased.

Anyone had more luck than me?

1) You have to go on GPSTopo France Website : http://www.gpstopo.fr/
2) You register ( it's free)
3) You download a demonstation tile/map
4) Install the map on your PC
5) That's it, you have Mapsource with the tile !
6) You go there: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/msource/ to update MS with the latest version Laughing

Excellent. Can someone make this sticky?

Is there any way to load a basemap into mapsource so you can see waypoint positions? This would be particularly handy. I'm thinking the free iQue one may be a start

Easy; just ask Laughing .

1) Just download this nice tool: Mapsource Map Manager: M3
2) Unzip and install
3) load any img file into Mapsource
4) Enjoy!

Related to this (more or less!), I have a copy of Mapsource that came with Metroguide Canada but have the standard mapping for the UK on my Nuvi 300. It would be useful to have the UK maps loaded into Mapsource so that I can set up waypoints, etc. on my PC. Is the only way to do this to buy a second copy of the UK maps, as I can't copy them from my Nuvi? It seems rather a waste as I have the maps already!

Any chance you might tell me where to find the demonstartion to download at http://www.gpstopo.fr/? I don't speak French but I did figure out how to register - I just don't understand where to download the tile/map.

Thank you, I mean "Merci"!

Once you are logged in, you can see on the top left of the main page "Derniere minute" and the following text:
"Vous pouvez télécharger une dalle de démonstration sur chaque région de GPS Topo 1 à 7"
click on "dalle de demonstration" you will now enter a new screen on which , 7 maps will be proposed ( in red)

CD démo de GpsTopo
Téléchargez gratuitement les dalles de démonstration de
GpsTopo 1 Alpes
GpsTopo 2 Pyrénées - Sud Ouest
GpsTopo 3 Provence - Côte d'azur
GpsTopo 4 Bretagne - Normandie
GpsTopo 5 Ile de France
GpsTopo 6 Alsace - Lorraine - Franche Comté
GpsTopo 7 Massif Central

Select any of these and you wil have a link to a zip file containing the selected map and ....Mapsource Wink

Enjoy !

I read the previous posts and tried to download the "demo" from GPSTOPO and I could not get past the registration. I cannot figure out how to submit my registration form. The button on the bottom of the screen does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Did you actually try clicking it? Hovering over it, it doesn't look like it does anything but clicking seemed to work anyway. Fooled me at first too.

You have to go there
Then you fill the registration form and click on the bottom left on "terminer l 'inscription". That's it .

Just go to Babelfish and Translate, it will translate the web pages into English for you.
