|
|
Just bought the New edition Europe and downloaded the speed camera files. I've backed up my SD card securely and spotted that the system is running V6.5. When I put the .OV2 and BMP files into the western_europe folder and restart the Tom Tom I get no indication of new POI's.
Where do I go from here ....
Advice would be gratefully received ...

I presume that you've gone to the Manage POI folder and activated the ones you wish to display? _________________ Regards

Welcome, Red_Rover
Have you enabled them?
From the Help file (links on the left, in red):
Quote: | Step 5. Display POIs on your TomTom GO
Finally, to enable POIs in your TomTom GO select them in your POI categories:
Change Preferences | Manage (or Maintain) POI | Enable / Disable POI
Select POI
They now are displayed on your GO screen in both 3D maps and 2D maps.
Even if you do not display POIs on screen, you can now "navigate to" your Poi’s, find POIs near your location, etc.
Step 6. Set up Proximity Alerts (optional)
Change Preferences | Manage (or Maintain) POI | Warn when near POI
Select each POI in turn,
Select the distance for warning
Select the warning sound
Uncheck the "Warn only if POI is on route" box
Repeat until all POIs are set up to warn.
NB. If you check the "Warn only if POI is on route" box, then you will not be warned of POIs that you approach if:
1. The POIs are slightly away from the road.
2. You have no destination and therefore no route planned.

You have to do the above steps for every camera type you have installed (you haven't said if you've used the "all-in-one" the "consolidated by type" or the "speed-zoned" file sets. Details of how to decide which is best for you are also in the FAQs/help files. |

No joy I'm afraid. I know that the camera files are on the device because when I explore it using the Tom Tom Home software I can see the files under POI's available.
When I disconnect and go to Preferences / Enable POI's however, they are not visible on the scroll bar at all. Equally frustrating is that if I go into Add POI and enter the name of the camera files that I saw in Tom Tom Home then it reports that this POI name is already in use.
So in summary they are on the system but not visible.
Any more suggestions?; I shall download another copy in case I've corrupted anything.
Thanks

Still no joy as such
You were correct in thinking that the safety cameras are now accessed from the TomTom Plus services menu but they can only be added by using the wireless link by phone; a service which I don't have and which sort of defeats the object of the downloaded database files. Does anyone know a way round this ?
I have generated some manual POI files for geocaching which went straight into the map folder and came up straightaway so I really don't understand the logic here !
Mark B - Frustrated .... |

Sorry red-rover, can you just confirm whether you have downloaded the camera POI files from this site or the ones from TomTom themselves?
If it is the TomTom ones, you are right - they are now handled differently.
If it is the normal pocketgps.ov2 ones, then they still work like any other POI files - ov2 and bmp files both go into the map folder.
Can you ignore Home for a minute and look at the contents of the map folder using Windows Explorer? Make sure that it is set to show file extensions (Tools / folder options/View tab) and report back whether you are seeing the files correctly (and give a list if its not too long?) |

At last, it has all fallen into place. The original fileset was from Tom Tom so needed to be handled differently. The file I downloaded last night from here has worked straight away.
Thanks for all the advice. :D |

Probably by following this:
.... the TomTom cameras no longer appear in the POI list. You will find them under the 'Safety Camera' menu: main menu / TomTom PLUS service / Safety Camera warnings |
