Hi, i've trawled the net for a few days and can't seem to come up with a straight answer on this one, so i'd appreciate a bit of help!

I've got an existing Magellan GPS315 unit which works fine, i have the GPS to DB9 serial cable, and i can use the GPS successfully with autoroute and the likes on my laptop (the unit outputs NMEA standard messages).

Is it somehow possible to connect this to my ipaq5550? I've got TomTom StreetPlanner and CityMaps on there already. The cradle has a serial connector, so i'm tempted to put a null modem lead between this and the gps, and hope for the best, but i'd rather not toast a few hundred quids worth of kit ;)

If anyone has any suggestions for a way to do this, i'd be most greatful! Failing that it looks like its time to scrape up my pennies and buy a bluetooth gps ;)

If you bypassed the cradle and just went Receiver to iPAQ then you certainly can do it. Check out this article http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/pcmobilecables.php for more information.

If you want to use the cradle, you may have to mess around with various cable types including null modem connectors to see if it will work.

A null modem adapter between the serial cables will certainly work.
